JOSHUA

ASCHENBRENNER

Worship Pastor

A singer, lyricist, and musician. Born in South Korea, purchased via Amazon-prime, and 2-day shipped to California. Just kidding. At 16 months old, I was adopted to the U.S.A. by a German family, raised by my parents in Clovis. God’s will for my life is simply an adventurous, hilarious, and musical testimony of His love.

Since I was about 6 years old, my grandpa, Ed Aschenbrenner, would sit me down by his blue upright piano. He’d sing old hymns, original songs, and Johnny Cash tunes, teaching me lessons of how to follow Christ and how to listen and play by ear. “Music is one of God’s greatest gifts to us”, he’d say, “now, gifts are meant to be shared, and you, my dear grandson, are gifted.”  Admittedly, it’s taken over twenty years for me to experience a glimpse of what Grandpa already knew.

From getting sober, to dueting with Grandpa in his last days, overcoming homelessness, to opening concerts with thousands of people, these trials and victories serve as the source of my musical passions and strengthen my call to ministry.

I’m grateful to serve as Worship Pastor here at First Street Church, to share my gifts, to lead others in a celebratory roar, and to carry on one of Grandpa’s greatest lessons:

“Remember who you are. Sing like it’s your last breath. Play like it’s your last chance.”

This is why God brought me here.
